This late Colonial Revival style apartment building is one of six nearly identical buildings on this street. The front porch is one of the most prominent features of this design. Architect Herman Kretz designed and was the first owner of this building. He lived nearby at 768 Summit Avenue.

History

According to the 1920 census, 24 residents lived in the apartments at 45 Avon. They were mostly comprised of single parent households, or small family units. It was not unusual to have one or two boarders living with a family here. The heads of the households held a variety of occupations, some of which included: machinist for the railroad, dressmaker, cattle driver, teacher, government clerk, and traveling salesman.
